The detail that finishes the furniture. A perfectly finished panel isn't just about what happens on the front. The exposed edges need the same attention, both for how they look and how they hold up over time. Edge banding is a thin strip of material applied along the exposed edges of a plywood panel. It covers the raw edge, creates a clean finished line and helps protect the board from everyday knocks, moisture and wear. At RISA, edge banding is matched as closely as possible to the furniture finish so the transition from the surface to the edge feels seamless rather than added on.
Why it matters Clean, finished edges. Protection from everyday wear. Reduced exposure of the plywood edge. A more refined overall finish. How it's applied The edge band is bonded to the panel using controlled heat and pressure, creating a secure connection between the band and the board. The excess material is then trimmed and finished to create a smooth, consistent edge. It may seem like a small manufacturing step, but poorly finished edges can make even expensive furniture look unfinished.
Care Keep edges dry and wipe spills promptly. Avoid hitting exposed corners with heavy objects and don't use abrasive materials while cleaning.
Good design is in the details you notice. Great craftsmanship is also in the ones you don't.
